The UPMC Center for Emergency Medicine is looking to hire a Full-Time Professional Flight Nurse to support MedEvac 9, located in Clearfield, PA.<br><br><strong>Schedule:<br><br></strong><ul><li>(2) 24-hour shifts per week</li><li>Holidays and weekends required<br><br></li></ul><strong>Purpose:<br><br></strong>The Professional Flight Nurse functions as a member of the critical care transport team and is responsible for the care of critically ill or injured patients transported by the STAT MedEvac system. Responsibilities include patient care incorporating assessment, stabilization, and intervention techniques consistent with standards and protocols approved by the Medical Director. The Flight Nurse is expected to execute independent judgment in order to deliver appropriate care that is consistent with the clinical protocols, when contact with a medical command physician is not possible. The Flight Nurse functions as a part of a team and shares responsibility for the team's conduct. The Flight Nurse fulfills education and experiential requirements as established by the STAT MedEvac Medical Director, and performs other duties as assigned. Supports and upholds the mission, goals, and objectives, of the STAT MedEvac system at all times.<br><br><strong>Responsibilities:<br><br></strong><ul><li>Provide advanced life support to critically ill or injured patients in adherence with established protocols and standards of care; assessing online medical command or other resources when appropriate. Participates in developing and completing research projects. </li><li>Reflects a positive attitude to the customer in a high stress environment at all times, with a clear understanding of who the customer is. </li><li>Performs all assigned duties, including daily, weekly, monthly, or other duties assigned by the base site manager, including (but not limited to): Performs daily equipment check (vehicle, medications). Ensures crew is logged onto computer duty roster. Participates in shift report from off going crew. Equipment checks. Transport log. Medication log. </li><li>Demonstrates skills, competencies, and judgment necessary to provide patient care in any environment; using educational resources that are required or made available. </li><li>Responds promptly and efficiently to all requests for service. </li><li>Reports for work well rested and fit for duty. Adhering to the drug and alcohol policy at all times. including prescription and/or over the counter medicine use. </li><li>Maintains clean patient environment as well as crew quarters</li><li>Participates constructively in the peer-review driven quality improvement program. </li><li>Maintains fitness for duty (if qualified as a flight crew member) by adhering to all employee health requirements, including maximum weight, hearing conservation program, and required medical screenings. Reports injuries and completes the appropriate documentation, no matter how minor, to a supervisor in a timely manner. </li><li>Ensures safe operation of patient laden stretcher employing appropriate stretcher discipline at all times. Maintains safe loading, unloading, adjustment of head of stretcher, and stretcher movement. </li><li>Adheres to rules for scheduling, including schedule requests, minimum time, and availability. </li><li>Demonstrates competency related to pharmacological interventions. </li><li>Actively participates in the development and training of new staff. </li><li>Ensures the safety of patients and all others. Utilizes appropriate safety channels to report safety concerns and uses tools available to enhance a safe work environment. </li><li>Collects and promptly processes demographic, medical necessity, and other necessary billing information. </li><li>Selects and uses personal protective equipment appropriate to the level of the anticipated hazard. </li><li>Completes all official documentation in a timely manner such as payroll, expense reports, orientation forms, etc. </li><li>Adheres to the current uniform policy. </li><li>Ensures patient and family confidentiality and dignity at all times. </li><li>Documents appropriate assessment, interventions, and other pertinent patient information in a timely manner. </li><li>Demonstrates the ability to establish a rapport with customers; including the ability to create and sustain a positive relationship; regardless of circumstances, environment, or patient presentation. </li><li>Participates in scheduled and unscheduled outreach activities, representing the UPMC and STAT MedEvac system. </li><li>High School Diploma or Equivalent. </li><li>Three years clinical experience in critical care and/or emergency department or RN applicants who have two years of experience and currently function as an RN in one of the UPMC Health System's tertiary critical care units or emergency departments while simultaneously have enrolled and met the clinical and operational objectives of the CEM STAT MedEvac two-year Mentor Program. <br><br></li></ul>RN applicants who have two years of experience and functioned previously as a Flight/Critical Care Transport Paramedic may be considered based on assessment of his/her role as a paramedic, years in the role and approval of a transition plan by the Medical Director (in accordance to CAMTS requirements). Successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam that includes a maximum height/weight restriction of 6-2 and less than or equal to 210 pounds, fitness for duty physical exam, hearing evaluation, and be declared fit for duty by the Medical Director. Must be eligible to receive medical command authorization by the Medical Director, have reliable transportation, and be willing to travel to any STAT MedEvac base site as assigned. Must be able to successfully complete the prescribed orientation program, including classroom, clinical rotations, educational competencies, and on the job flight training. Must have the ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities, and specialized equipment.<br><br><strong>Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:<br><br></strong>Three years clinical experience with a busy advanced life support or critical care ambulance service or critical care experience in a hospital setting. RN applicants who have two years of experience and functioned previously as a Flight/Critical Care Transport Paramedic may be considered based on assessment of his/her role as a paramedic, years in the role and approval of a transition plan by the Medical Director (in accordance to CAMTS requirements). Must obtain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on a Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation to be promoted to this level. Must maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on annual performance evaluation to maintain status. Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families. Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment. Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care. Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process. Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients. Driver's License. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Pediatric Adv Life Support.
