Remote Medical Billing and Coding Specialist

Other Jobs To Apply

No other job posts for this day.

Somebody has to make sure the numbers match the notes, and that's the job here. Codes get assigned wrong every day at understaffed practices — a missed modifier, a mismatched diagnosis code, an EOB nobody reads closely enough. We're looking for a Remote Medical Billing and Coding Specialist who catches those issues before they result in a rejected claim sitting in a queue for three weeks. The Short Version You'll take clinical documentation and turn it into claims that actually get paid. Not eventually — on the first pass, most of the time. That's the whole job, really: read the chart, assign the right code, submit it clean, and chase down anything that bounces back. It sounds simple until you've spent a week untangling a denial that traces back to one wrong digit in a CPT code. What You'd Actually Be Doing Reviewing patient records and assigning ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes Filing claims through electronic clearinghouses and following them until they resolve Auditing billing entries against payer rules and current federal regulations Tracking down why a claim got denied, fixing it, and getting it back out the door Going back and forth with physicians or clinical staff when documentation is unclear Keeping everything HIPAA-compliant, no exceptions Pulling together periodic reports on how billing is performing What We Need From You There's a floor here, and we won't go below it: Education: High school diploma or equivalent, minimum Experience: Two years or more with EHR systems and medical billing, remote or otherwise Certification: CPC, CCS, or CBCS — one of these, active Comfortable interpreting EOBs and explaining them if a patient asks Solid grasp of Medicare, Medicaid, and how private payers differ from both Not intimidated by cloud billing platforms or having half your workday happen in Slack Nice-to-Haves None of these are dealbreakers, but they'll get your resume a second look: Telehealth billing experience — the rules there aren't quite the same Some familiarity with AI-assisted claim scrubbing tools Having worked under a pay-for-performance model before The patience to write a clear, specific message to a physician's office instead of a vague one What You'll Be Working With Athenahealth and Kareo handle the day-to-day claims management. 3M CodeFinder and EncoderPro cover the coding side. Smartsheet keeps the team's tasks from disappearing into inboxes. None of it is exotic — it's the standard toolkit for this kind of work, just kept current and properly licensed, with VPN access and MFA locking things down the way HIPAA expects. About the Remote Setup It's fully remote, genuinely — not "remote with occasional mandatory office days." Teams, Zoom, and Slack handle communication; e-signatures replace the paperwork that once required a fax machine. We look at what got done, not when you logged in to do it. If you're the kind of person who does better work at 6 am or 9 pm, that's fine by us. Roles like this one tend to surface on Naukri Mitra, alongside other remote healthcare administration openings, so you may have found us that way already. Pay and What Comes With It The salary for this role is $46,000 a year. Beyond that: Genuinely flexible scheduling — outcomes matter more than hours Health coverage for you, with options to extend to dependents Paid time off, plus standard holidays Support toward certification renewal and continuing education, not just lip service Bonus potential tied to accuracy and turnaround, not vague "performance" Where People Tend to Go From Here A few paths open up once you've been in this role a while. Some people move into Senior Coding Analyst work, handling more complex audits. Others end up managing revenue cycle operations across several practices at once. A smaller number pivot toward compliance — making sure coding practices hold up as regulations shift — or toward telehealth operations specifically, since that side of healthcare is still figuring out its own billing conventions. How the Team Actually Works It's a mix of certified coders and a few engineers who keep the automation running. Over the last year, a good chunk of the repetitive manual work was automated, which mostly means fewer copy-paste tasks and more time spent on the claims that actually need a human judgment call. There are dashboards if you like seeing your numbers, and periodic check-ins that are closer to a real conversation than a status update — though nobody will make you turn your camera on if you'd rather not. Applying Send over your certification, a rundown of your billing experience, and anything else that shows you can do this well. We go through applications as they come in rather than batching them, so there's no fixed deadline to worry about — but earlier is usually better than later. Open to candidates from the US, Canada, the UK, the EU, Australia, India, and beyond. If the experience is there, location isn't a barrier.
